Checking In

It’s been awhile since I dropped a bullet-point blog and as this is my first day back in the saddle after the holiday season it’s a good time to dust one off.

  • We lost two great ones over the weekend. Howard Scholar Glenn Lord and Swordmaster Bob Anderson. They both meant the world to me and were huge influences. May they both rest in peace.
  • I hate New Year’s Resolutions. That being said, I’m back to tackling my weight issues and by simply counting calories I’ve already dropped six freaking pounds. Only one hundred and twenty nine to go.
  • I cannot overstate the love I have for my wife and son. Without them I’d be a total wreck. If I have learned anything in my 45 years and 10 months on this planet, it’s this: without love and support you are nothing. If you’re lucky enough to have people who care about you in this crazy-ass world, hold onto them for dear life.
  • This year, so far, I’ve got two short stories, a poem, a graphic novel, and a special Hallowe’en comic scheduled to be published. With a little bit of luck, a lot of hard work, and some gritty determination, I expect that number to rise considerably.
  • If there is one thing I have resolved to do this year, it is to write more. Much more, in fact. Also, I need to get back in the field more than I did in 2011. I need to schedule some signings, appearances, and interviews. Last year I was far too reclusive.
  • At issue with the above bullet is my work schedule. I work a lot. 40 hour day shift plus another 60 hours on-call. So, if it seems my creative output has diminished, that my blogging is not as frequent, and that the paranormal cases I investigate have been greatly reduced, there’s your reason. It’s certainly not ideal, but my family’s got to eat and we’re barely scraping by as is. I need a big score to get out of this rat race. Maybe 2012 is my year to finally make it happen.
  • I’d love to ramble on, but work calls… I’ll leave you with this: I believe we can make 2012 something special. Together, I know we can do this. I’ll have faith in you if you’ll have faith in me. Let’s shake the pillars of heaven and let the thunder roll.
