RIP Tom Brown

CONVERSE – Thomas “TOM” C. Brown, Jr., 67, went to heaven on August 23rd at his home with his family around him.

Mr. Brown was born in Peru, IN to the late Thomas C. Brown Sr. and Betty (Stepler) Brown. Also the “Dad” that raised him the late Roscoe Simpson. He married Debbie “Suzi” Biggs on January 18th, 1975.

skull-pilot-fsTom graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1965. He served in the US Navy on the USS Essex. He was a founding member and President for many years of the Eastern Woodland Carvers Club that just celebrated its 25th anniversary. He is a member and past President of the exclusive national Caricature Carvers of America. A member of Boy Scouts of America becoming Eagle Scout, and earning the Silver Beaver as an adult leader. He belonged to Beer Can Collecters of America, and The American Legion. He worked for Chrysler Corp. in Kokomo.

Tom was honored to be given the prestigious Sagamores of Wabash by Indiana Govenor Frank O’Bannon in 2001. He was awarded the Ron Ryan Artistry in Wood Award in 2000 by the Dayton Carvers Guild.

Tom’s passions in addition to loving his family and friends, was being a collector of antiques and memorabilia with some of his favorites being Navy, Boy Scouts, Beer Cans, Coins and Carvings.

Tom is survived by his wife, Suzi, Converse; daughter Brandi, (David) Staudt, Jacksonville, FL; sons Tom Brown 3rd, Mier; Todd Brown, Converse; Scott (Lorie Bruning) Brown, Marion; Kevin (Nava) Brown, Marion; Cam (Saundra) Brown, Marietta, GA; sister Lana (Lee) Mauldon, Marion; niece Angie (Tommy) Caldwell, Marion; nephews Troy Kenyon, Marion; Ryan (Tina) Kenyon, Kokomo; Chris (Claudia) Kenyon, Zionsville; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas C. Brown Sr. and Betty (Stepler) Brown; also the “Dad” that raised him, Roscoe Simpson; sister Nita (Dave) Kenyon, Converse; ex-wife Leona Hart.

Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday August 27th at Converse Church of Christ, 301 E. Wabash St., Converse with Dana Biggs officiating.

Visitation will take place from 3pm to 5 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm Monday
