TAC Presents The Study Havamal
The Asatru Community is a non-profit organization whose aim is to be the central hub of a network that links individuals and kindreds around the world. It is a noble cause. TAC is looking to provide a safe place for heathens to connect with one another, to share their knowledge and ideas, and to promote fellowship among all the various factions that make up the greater Asatru community.
I have been honored to have my artwork, “Midwinter”, selected to grace the cover of The Asatru Community’s Study Havamal. This edition will be sent, free of charge, to service men and women stationed around the globe.

Yeah, I was really thrilled to be tapped for this. The idea that my artwork could be helping to inspire a soldier in some far-flung combat zone is really appealing to me.

I have been informed by TAC that they’ll not be using my art after all. Too “Gandalf” for their board of directors, and it is true that I drew from a statue of Gandalf I happened upon on the internet. But as to the the Gandalf/Odin iconography, I reply with this quote —
“The figure of Gandalf has other influences from Germanic mythology, particularly Odin in his incarnation as “the Wanderer”, an old man with one eye, a long white beard, a wide brimmed hat, and a staff: Tolkien states that he thinks of Gandalf as an “Odinic wanderer” in a letter of 1946.”
