Standing on the Corner

winslowgreeting

True story.

In 1990 I was in the desert southwest with a bunch of archaeology students, making our way from Res to Res and having a damn good time doing so. We ended up heading into Winslow, Arizona with a Hopi woman named Nan Talahunga to cash her government check and I couldn’t for the life of me come up with the reason why that town meant something to me.

Well, me and my pal Chris Hunter were standing there on the street corner, smoking cigarettes and watching the world pass by when this pretty girl drove by in a Ford pickup.

She caught both our eyes and then the light bulbs went off, you know.

Had a good laugh over that one.
