One Response to “What did I think of Conan: Blood of the Serpent?”
On the plus side, I think Conan was portrayed in the spirit of REH’s Conan, he wasn’t turned into some other character. Valeria’s character was really well written as well, and it was cool to get into her background and mindset a bit more deeply. There were some good fight scenes. On the other hand it was too… pedestrian; not enough primordial, eldritch forces or otherworldly foes to overcome. One normal animal after another. Ooh a gorilla… then a croc… then a rhino… then a snake… It was quite repetitive. First the slaves, then the native tribe… one hunt, then another hunt… the major plot points basically repeated themselves. In a few places Conan’s language didn’t fit. There also wasn’t a particular climax. It just kind of ended. I love the idea of this story leading into Red Nails, but it didn’t do it justice. I was really looking forward to this book, and I *did* enjoy it, but it didn’t live up to my (admittedly high) expectation. It was a page turner, I finished it in about 2 weeks, but I give it a C+. Sorry to hear about your health issues in 2022, glad you’re doing better!
