Tarot Tuesday: As I Thoth

Welcome to another Tarot Tuesday. Today I dipped into the old cigar box I use to hold my Thoth and Golden Dawn decks.

The older of the two decks is the Thoth, which I purchased at the White Rabbit in 1986 when I lived in the haunted Martin Street house in Muncie, Indiana. Crowley and Harris delivered a true work of art with the Thoth. The evocative images really tap into one’s subconscious, and I have often used them as meditational and projection tools.

The Golden Dawn deck came later, in the mid-90s, replacing the deck that was stolen from my trailer in 1992. I picked this up at Waldenbooks. Man, I miss that place. The Golden Dawn is a more “traditional” tarot. The art, while a fascinating collection of images, is less inspired than the Thoth, but no less effective. Wang, in conjunction with Regardie, deliver on producing a deck in line with the Hermetic Order’s teachings.

So what shall I draw from? Let’s go with the Thoth, and reflect on my health. I’ve had a persistent upper respiratory issue. Let’s see what the cards think about that. Pressed for time, I will continue with a three card draw.

The first card drawn is the 7 of Disks. The Past Position represents recent events that have transpired leading up to the present situation, relating to your question. In this case, the 7 of Disks represents failure, a lack of planning has lead to disaster. All in keeping with my history of decadence and a general apathy toward my health. Something I have been working on for the past decade or so, but recently I have lapsed somewhat.

The second card is the 4 of Wands. This is the Present Position and reflects our current state of affairs as related to the question at hand. The 4 of Wands represents the understanding of order and balance. I take this to mean that I acknowledge the underlying problem and am seeking to restore myself to my proper center of mental and physical well-being.

The third card drawn is the 3 of Disks. Found in the Future Position, this card shows the probable outcome. It is a card about the journey, of making progress and taking the first steps toward victory. While signifying more work needs to be done, it represents that you are on the right path.

All in all, a solid reading, and one I can take stock of and put to good use.
