MEET

While we’ve taken a step back from Occult Detective: The Roleplaying Game to complete work on a licensed intellectual property, it is never far from my mind. When today’s prompt crept up, unsurprisingly,  it was Occult Detective that my mind went to.

One of the challenges in bringing a game steeped in magic to life, especially one set in the modern age, is that area where fantasy and reality meet.

We wanted to create a game that mirrored authentic magical practices, with a little bit of cinematic flair, but, of course, as we introduced more and more supernatural elements, that meeting point between the “real” world and the “magical” one began to blur.

Finding just the right balance is a neat little trick and one we wrestled with through several playtest iterations.
