Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee died
on the 7th of June at the age of 93.
I am, in a word, gutted.
It has been a hard morning and this news does not sit well with me. I have been enchanted by Christopher Lee since seeing him in a triple bill at the Drive-In — Dracula, Dracula Has Risen From the Grave, and Dracula A.D. 1972 — when I was 7 years old.
Lee was a giant. Dracula, Fu Manchu, both Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, Lord Summerisle, Rasputin, Frankenstein’s Monster, Francisco Scaramanga, Count Dooku, Saruman, and so many more.
My favorite Christopher Lee film, just nudging past Wicker Man, is The Devil Rides Out in which Lee played aristocrat, adventurer and occultist Duc De Richleau to perfection.
As I stated earlier today on twitter, the world is a darker place without him in it.
He will be sorely missed.
