Simple Truths #writingintheoryandpractice
There is a time in everyone’s journey when to be published is the be-all/end-all. I’ll never forget the pride that swelled in me the first time I saw my name in a table of contents. Now, all these years later, the pride is lessened. The magazine went belly-up a few short years after, and very few people ever read it. I suspect the majority of purchasers were the authors themselves, looking to have something to pass along at cons or to friends and family.
See. the hard lesson learned is that it is not enough to be published. One needs to be published well. And believe me, that’s getting harder and harder to come by.
The industry has been in a state of flux for a number of years now and it’s almost impossible to predict what the industry will look like once the dust settles.
One thing will remain true.
And if you can’t be published well… if there’s no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow… so be it.
They are your words and they matter, whether anyone reads them or not.
Writers write, publishers be damned.
