All things must pass
They tore down the Converse Water Tower today. I’m not really sure why this bothers me so. It’s an inanimate object after all, and yet, for as long as I have been alive it has stood overlooking the town that I have called home for forty-three years.
I understand that its usefulness had passed. Its replacement is already operating at peak efficiency and it stands on the other side of town, near the elementary, like a bright and shiny beacon of this brave new world we find ourselves in.
I guess it’s a product of growing older, but I am resistant to change, at least in regard to my surroundings. I cling to familiarity, perhaps because it offers a false sense of immortality.
Everything changes.
In the end, all things must pass…
So long, old friend… and Godspeed. Seeing you fall makes me realize that I’m not that far behind…

If someone says Converse to me, I usually think three things, in this order: Bob, water tower and shoes. The tower was in so many of the photos posted that it just seemed… permanent.
Damn. :-/
